Hello There!
WE ARE

FRANCIS & HEIDI

FROM NEW YORK

Meet Francis and Heidi, a New York couple who have grown together for more than 20 years and share a deep love of music, creativity, and family. A violinist and psychotherapist, they hope to welcome a child into their peaceful Manhattan home, surrounded by laughter, nature, and unconditional love always.

We are so grateful to have this opportunity!

Hi, we’re Heidi and Francis! We have been together for a long time (21 years!) and over the course of that time together, we have dreamed of having a child of our own. Having met in college when we were 19 and 20 years old, we have really grown up together, and we can’t wait to invite a child into the peaceful and deeply loving home that we have built. After a difficult fertility journey, our desire to become parents has only grown, and we have so much love to give a child as we watch them develop into their own special being. We know that there are so many ways to grow a family – Heidi’s father was adopted, and we have been lucky to witness some close friends adopt children of their own. It would be a privilege to become the steady, loving parents a child needs, and we could not feel more open, ready, and excited to guide and witness them as they discover the world.

Francis is patient, curious about almost anything, and possesses a whimsical and dry sense of humor. He has a gentle, loving presence, and is an incredibly devoted husband, son, uncle, brother, and friend. He loves people deeply, and is interested in the unique stories and histories that we all carry. Francis began playing the violin at age 5, and now works as a professional violinist with a deep commitment and passion for music-making. He loves to cook (and eat!) foods from all cultures— Heidi jokingly calls him “Chef Liu”, and he grew up in a household where gathering around the dinner table was emphasized as one of the great joys in life. Whether tending to the plants in the apartment, or playing imaginary games with his nieces and nephews, his creativity, playfulness, and attentive care are daily features of our home.

New Year’s

Heidi is a natural care-taker and derives a lot of joy from nurturing and supporting the people she loves. She is incredibly empathetic — her ability to perceive the needs and emotions of others makes her an irreplaceable friend, partner, and confidant. Heidi grew up playing the violin, and performed as a violinist professionally through her 20’s, when she started to become fascinated with healing and the mind-body connection. She now finds a lot of fulfillment from helping others as a psychotherapist and yoga teacher. Heidi is someone who immerses herself fully in whatever she does, whether writing poetry, taking in the sunset after a long hike, learning about astrology, or practicing hand-stands with her niece and nephew. She also has a very goofy side that comes out if you get to know her well enough! She can’t wait to become the mother to a very special being.

OUR HOME & COMMUNITY

We live in a sunny and spacious corner apartment overlooking a beautiful view of upper Manhattan. The neighborhood is a vibrant, diverse melting pot of cultures, full of restaurants, shops, and home to two gorgeous parks. We’re a short walk away from old growth trees, walking paths, playgrounds, fields, and the Metropolitan Museum’s Cloisters. Our neighborhood really feels like a little community, with several of our friends (mostly musicians and artists) living close by, and we love nothing more than meeting up at the local farmer’s market on Saturdays or hosting people for dinner. We also both have family close by – Francis’s mom, sister, and cousin’s family live a short train ride away in New Jersey, and Heidi’s sister and her family live a short drive up the Hudson Valley. We can’t wait to raise a child in this beautiful and exciting part of New York City, where they will be surrounded by nature, art, and so much love.

THANK YOU

FOR CONSIDERING US

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our profile. We know what an incredibly big and important decision this is, and we’re in awe of your strength and courage. We hope that you’ve been able to glean some sense of who we are as people from the words and photos on this page. We are so ready to become parents, and to offer this child a secure, peaceful environment where they can explore and discover – not only the world, but who they want to be themselves. As two people with backgrounds in music and therapy, we’re both very aware of how important our histories and stories are, and we are committed to helping our child explore how to maintain a meaningful connection with their roots. We can’t wait for all of the sweet daily moments of playing, dancing, singing, music-making, cooking, and reading with our child. We are also so excited for the many traveling adventures we will take as a family, sharing with them our love of the Oregon mountains, the beaches of Costa Rica, or the cobblestone streets of Amsterdam. They will grow up surrounded by creativity and a love of learning, and we will provide lots of opportunities for them to find out who they are and what lights them up. In addition to us, they will be joining an extended network of friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. The annual Secret Santa tradition with Francis’s family, feeding the chickens and sheep at Heidi’s sister’s farm upstate, and being doted on by their loving older cousins all await! From that nourishing place of safety and stability, we want to expose them to all that New York City has to offer, whether it’s looking at the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum, running through wide open fields at our local park, or counting the train cars as we ride the subway. It is our deepest promise to love and accept them unconditionally, walking with them hand in hand through each phase of life. Francis and Heidi
