A Little About Us

When we first met at a small coffee shop on a rainy afternoon, we were both nervous – Jon was so nervous that he didn’t order anything while we were there! Fortunately, we quickly realized how easy it was to talk to each other. Our strong family ties are what drew us to each other and we appreciated that our siblings and cousins are our best friends. We both have experienced growing up outside the United States – Jon in Germany and Stephanie in Venezuela. Both of us served in the Peace Corps before we met, living in Africa and teaching school children. Our love of travel and adventure has continued together, with trips to beaches, mountains, and lakes in both the United States and overseas.

WE HAVE KNOWN THAT WE WOULD ADOPT SINCE BEFORE WE WERE MARRIED.

We want you to know that you will always be an integral part of his or her life, and we plan to raise them with an understanding and appreciation for you and the sacrifice you are making for him or her. We hope to continue communication with you throughout their life by sending pictures, letters, and visiting annually.

Jon is silly, light-hearted, and has a sense of humor that is refreshing everywhere we go. Although Stephanie rolls her eyes, she loves how Jon is able to keep life light while being her pillar of strength. Our kids will always be Jon’s top priority!

Stephanie’s loyalty to her family and friends are fierce. She is patient and kind and loves being around kids. Stephanie loves throwing parties for others, cooking, and volunteering in our community. Jon knows she will always love, care for, and protect our children.

I was born in Venezuela and moved to Texas when I was 7 years old. My mother is from Venezuela, my father is from Texas and they raised me to speak Spanish and English. Selena, Pitbull, Pat Green, and Josh Abbot are on my playlist. Growing up I was my high school’s mascot, a competitive swimmer, a volunteer translator for kids who don’t speak English (something I still do today), and traveled every opportunity I got. I am very passionate, but always remember to never take myself too seriously. My parents encouraged me to chase my dreams, and taught me to always listen to my gut and heart. I am so happy I did because through all of my adventures, it led me to Jon and to a life I love. I can’t wait to pass on my love of life and adventure to my future child and am so excited to do it with Jon.

a little about

JON

I was born the son of two Marines, and as a military family we moved around quite a bit as I was growing up. Our travels took us from Missouri to Virginia to Germany, and finally back to settle in Virginia. My parents instilled in me a strong sense of familial duty and pride, while my siblings always kept things light and fun. They are still, to this day, my best friends in the world. Growing up with younger siblings and cousins, I always knew I wanted to work with kids; this led me to being a teacher for several years, and I love teaching and coaching and seeing people grow to their fullest potential. I am also obsessed with sports – both competing myself, and watching as a fan! I cannot wait to start a family with Stephanie and work hand-in-hand with her to give the best possible life to our future child.

OUR HOME IN WASHINGTON, DC is located on a street full of kids of all ages, and sits right behind an elementary school with a playground that the community uses year round. We decorated our home with colorful things we have acquired from our travels around the world. We have lots of books and spaces for arts and crafts like making playdough, finger painting, and coloring. Our home has a big backyard that we hope to put a swing set in. We have a big kitchen where we make dinners together – and Stephanie’s specialty, 5 layer rainbow cakes!

STEPHANIE works with organizations that help young people stay in school. Everyone on her team has kids and they encourage having a work/life balance. Flexibility and understanding are already part of her work environment as well as emphasizing working from home. Stephanie’s co-workers are excited for her to become part of the parent community! Stephanie’s work has a daycare in her building that will allow her to see our child as often as she would like.

JON works in international business with developing countries; he loves that his work allows him to interact with people all around the world every single day. His work also prioritizes family, flexibility and has generous vacation time.

Our offices are so close to our home that we can walk to and from work together. Jon typically works early and is free in the afternoons; alternatively, Stephanie tends to have free time in the morning and work later. In the afternoon we go to our neighborhood park or stop to grab dinner on the way home.

OUR

FAMILY

Our weekends are usually spent with our siblings and cousins playing sports, Pictionary, charades, and many board games. Since our siblings live in the Washington DC area, pizza and game night Fridays are what we look forward to every week!

JON’S PARENTS live about 3 hours away, and we see each other very frequently. We love going to football and baseball games together, gardening and planting vegetables, watching sports, and going on hikes near their home.

STEPHANIE’S PARENTS live in Texas where she grew up and we visit them several times a year. When we visit them, we fish, go kayaking, visit friends, and eat a lot of BBQ, tacos, and Whataburger!

OUR

FRIENDS

Our friend community is very important to us. Many of them live nearby and are starting to have kids! Like with our family, we travel with our friends to places like Hawaii, Florida, Nebraska, California, and North Carolina. We watch football and soccer together or play golf, go apple and berry picking, and meet up to go on walks.

We have a very important support system that no matter where we are, we know that they are all just a phone call away and we can count on them always. They are all ready to welcome a new baby into the family!

OUR PROMISE

to

YOU

We want you to know that we will raise your child in a home filled with laughter, hugs, dancing, adventures, waking up to the smell of brownies and cookies, relaxing movie and game nights, swimming at our neighborhood pool – but most importantly, endless love. This child will be loved beyond words and he or she will always know the great love you have for them as well.
