Harris and Melissa
Hello from Texas! We are Melissa & Harris, along with our son, Arik. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We’re excited to share our story and hope to get to know you more, too!
We cannot wait to become a family of four through adoption! Our young son, Arik, is a sweet spirit who attaches to others and is thrilled to become a big brother. He enjoys playing outside and visiting the zoo and parks. Together, we love to run, read, find local restaurants, and spend time outdoors. We also enjoy traveling, hiking, and visiting museums.

Adoption was something we talked about early in our dating life. We always dreamed of having a family. We were unsure how that would happen, but we always knew that we wanted to adopt. We had our son, Arik, shortly after our firs wedding anniversary and look forward to growing our family with adoption. To us, adoption is a beautiful gift only the bravest people can give. Your child is a precious blessing, and so are you.
We met while serving in the military in Virginia. We began talking but ended up across the world from each other. We reconnected about 18 months later and quickly realized we each found “our person.” In just a few short years, we have lived so much life; leaving the active-duty military, having a son, attending graduate school, multiple cross-state moves, and all the other gains and losses life can throw at us. No matter what happens, we keep each other moving forward. Harris is the calm waters that run deep, and Melissa is the forever optimistic, lighthearted one. Together, we have a balance and treasure what the other offers
OUR LIFE TOGETHER
Our day begins with a run, where we take turns so one is always home with our son. We enjoy slow mornings on the weekends of college football, soccer, a bowl of “Daddy oatmeal” and fetch with our German Shepherd. We take frequent trips to parks, and the zoo, and love playing in the backyard. On the weekdays we talk over breakfast after our runs before heading off to work and school. We wind down with dinner, playing with blocks or cars, and reading books before bed.

I remember the day that I brought home a paper to sign up for after school cross country. I was 10 years old, and my mom was always supportive of things I wanted to try. I fell in love with running not only because of competition, but the process of improving. This has taught me to take things one moment at a time, and I try to use this skill in parenting. I realized that learning to use a spoon is new to a child and that made me want to focus on the process of parenting, and to be patient like in a race.
I see the beauty in the world and try to point it out to others. It is so easy to get bogged down with stress, and it is a conscious effort to stay positive. This is when we feel our best and do our best in running, life, and parenting.
I have been a nurse for 11 years. I spent 7 ½ years as an Air Force nurse before deciding to extend my career and become a nurse practitioner. I graduated in December 2021 and have begun a new chapter in my career and continue to serve in the Air National Guard.
I was drawn to medicine, and the best part is helping patients understand their care and help them move past an illness to live their best life.

Cooking is one of my favorite things to do. Both my parents are good cooks and I learned from them. For my 30th birthday, Melissa got me a smoker to barbecue meat. I’m still trying to figure out if it was a present for her or me! My dad is also an avid barbecue cook, and I’ve loved learning skills and trading recipes with him.
My favorite meat to smoke is brisket. It’s a 24-hour process, and you never really know how it will turn out until you slice into it. Smoking a brisket is a lot like being a parent. You have to be patient, and when problems come up, take a deep breath and work through them.
After I served in the Navy for almost 5 years, I went into business management.
After a couple of years of that I decided, finally, it was the right time to attend law school. I am currently pursuing finance law, and want to help Veterans with their businesses.
- LONE STAR LIFE -
We love our home in the great State of Texas! We enjoy being close to the city, but not in the city. The weekends are for family time of runs, parks, and a short drive to the zoo or aquarium.
We love being outdoors but look for open space to run and play. We enjoy traveling to spend time at the beach or on hikes. We look for fun festivals and activities around the area, especially where kids can have room to be kids.

We have a 3-1/2 year old German Shepherd, Ares. We have had him since he was a puppy. From the start, wherever Arik goes, he goes. He is a sweet boy who loves to play fetch outside, cuddle on the couch, and waits patiently for cheese to fall on the floor. He is a gentle giant that has brought so much love and joy to our family. He is great with Arik and we know he be will be an excellent furry friend to your child!

OUR VILLAGE IS AROUND THE WORLD!
Having both served in the military, moving and deploying to many places helped us build an extended family. Being away from our own families, we celebrated successes, supported each other through difficult times, had holidays together, and built a life in these areas for however long we were there. They are family to us. We each have one brother and parents who support us as individuals, and a couple. We are loved deeply and gained another set of parents with our mother/father “in-love.”
Though we do not live close to all the ones we love, we maintain these relationships with trips to visit each other, phone calls, video chats and texting. We have loved each other’s children as part of the family. We have been supported by many close friends who have been through the journey themselves. We already have so much love from our village for our own journey. We are truly blessed to have such a large village across the world and from so many backgrounds. Sometimes it is hard to see each other, but when we do, it feels like no time has passed. No matter the distance, we celebrate milestones with love that can be felt across the world.

ARIK CANNOT WAIT TO HAVE A SIBLING AND WE KNOW HE WILL BE AN AMAZING BIG BROTHER!
We have a four-year-old son, Arik. He is a sweet spirit who has never met a stranger. He is the first to say hello and welcome new kids to his class. He loves books before bed, going to the zoo, playing at parks and eating fruits/vegetables! He is excited to become a Big Brother and talks about sharing his toys and books with his little brother or sister.

We are extremely thankful for your consideration of us, and we recognize the brave decision to give the gift of adoption. This would not be possible without you. Just as our village spans across the world, you become part of our village. We want to share that our child was a beautiful gift from someone who made this decision out of love. We want to send updates, letters, and photos as they grow, and want them to know who you are. This is a gift we will never be able to repay, except to love this child and give them every piece of us as parents. We are honored that you are considering our family and thank you for taking the time to get to know us.
WE WOULD LOVE TO
HEAR FROM YOU!
