OUT HIKING

- ABOUT -

US

Our story begins in the tropical vacation destination of Hawaii, our home for four years and a place that is not hard to fall in love. We were both stationed in the Navy on the “windward” side of the island, Kaneohe Bay. We became acquaintances through mutual friends and discovered our similar passion for food, travel, animals, and love for culture. As we learned more about each other, we couldn’t stop the magic from happening and married in 2018.

- OUR LIFE -

TOGETHER

We currently live in the evergreen state of Washington and are proud parents of our furry pup named Gunnar. He enjoys having a big backyard that overlooks a green belt and can’t wait to share it with a new family member. In our free time, we enjoy the great outdoors where we like to camp and hike together.

Family is everything to us, which is why we choose to spend most of our time with them. When we can, we like to visit extended family in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Arizona and Peru.

Meet

SHEYLA

- BY ANTHONY -

Sheyla is my motivator, sidekick and occasional single audience member for my dreadful dad jokes, bless her. Ever since we met, she has driven me to be a better person. I could not have accomplished what I have so far without her. For instance, convincing me to apply for challenging college courses that later opened doors for my career and being supportive when my workday is more stressful.

Sheyla’s family is of Hispanic/Latino descent. She was born and raised in Peru, and after finishing High School, she and her family moved to the United States and established themselves in Florida. For Sheyla, a language is an essential tool for understanding other cultures.

AUNT SHEYLA WITH HER NIECE

Sharing her cultural roots through her native Spanish language is something she is looking forward to passing on to the new child in her life.

It’s fun watching her interacting with her niece and nephews, and she loves spending time with animals. She is patient and caring with them, which is why I know she’ll be a great mom. Gunnar has some interesting anxiety quirks, and she is right by his side each time he is having an episode from a thunderstorm. She knows exactly what to do to calm him during these moments.

I don’t think there’s anything Sheyla enjoys more than dancing to her favorite 80’s and 90’s Latin rock bands. I don’t understand a word of it, but she sings to me like I can, and it warms my heart.

SHEYLA’S DAY JOB

Do what you love is my motto.

I always wanted to be in the healthcare field and I currently work with the Office of Immunization. I enjoy what I do because I am part of a state program that supplies vaccines to providers for all children, which eliminates or reduces cost barriers to receiving vaccinations. I’m very lucky that my job is remote, so I can spend time with my family. Work life balance is very important to me in having a healthy family.

Meet

ANTHONY

- BY SHEYLA -

Anthony is my rock, my world and one of life’s biggest blessings. He is very kind and sweet. One of his biggest characteristics is his great sense of humor, always making me laugh with his silly things. He is very compassionate, smart, hardworking, and dedicated to everything he puts his mind to. His very outgoing personality makes everyone around him feel good. He loves playing with our niece and nephews when we get together as a family.

FATHER SON FISHING TRIP AT THE COAST

He is a great cook; our friends love to visit because he always treats them with delicious meals. I cannot wait for Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations because he makes the best holiday treats ever and they are gone within minutes.

Anthony loves outdoor activities, and that is something that we love to do together. Every year we go camping to amazing places. He always enjoys his annual fishing trips with his Dad.

I consider myself lucky because Anthony is a great husband and I cannot wait for him to become a dad.

ANTHONY’S DAY JOB

My Naval aviator experience has led to my love for aerospace, while my work as a leader in marketing has provided me with a passion for training others.

My current role encompasses the best of both worlds. As a Global Training Program Manager, I coordinate and provide training on aircraft propellers to our domestic and international customers. After work, I enjoy going on a run through the neighborhood and throwing the ball with Gunnar in the backyard to unwind.

WE ARE SO HAPPY TO CALL WASHINGTON OUR HOME!

Although our four bedroom home is a bit big for just us, we wanted enough room to start our family. Our neighborhood has two elementary schools, over 30 miles of hiking trails, and TONS of parks.

There is so much to do around us, from skiing on Mt. Rainier to fishing and whale watching in the Puget Sound. We do it all! We are also just a short drive to our good friends in Whidbey Island, where we spend time with them and their kids.

OUR MODERN FAMILY

Since Anthony’s parents are semi-retired, they have lots of free time to come up to Washington State to visit with us. Much like Anthony, his dad shares a passion for cooking and loves seeing other enjoys his bounty.

His brother has started his family in Tennessee, where he and his fiancé and their newborn live. It was a great moment when Anthony got to meet his sweet nephew for the first time and hold him at 5 weeks old!

Anthony’s aunt and uncle from his father’s side, live in Arizona, with his two cousins. Fun fact: Anthony’s aunt and uncle were both born in Pakistan. They both had a huge part in helping raise Anthony in his early years when he lived in AZ.

Sheyla’s mother lives in Florida. She loves to spend time with her grandkids, going to the movies, and enjoys having Wednesday tea parties with friends from church. She is fluent in Spanish, but understands English and can carry on small conversations. Currently, her best English teacher is her grandson.

Sheyla’s brother lives a few minutes from her mother where he, his wife and two beautiful children, ages 2 and 4, reside. At least once a year, we visit her family in Florida and love taking gifts to the children and spending time with them and Sheyla’s extended family, some that visit from Peru and Cuba!
