We are so grateful to have this opportunity!

Adoption is our first choice in having a family, as we believe that every child deserves a loving home and that family can come in all shapes and sizes. Julia’s desire to nurture kids from all backgrounds led to her passion of teaching, while Joseph’s belief in stewardship opened his heart to environmentalism and helping those in need. We are profoundly aware of the importance of embracing our child’s heritage and growing along with our future child. We wholeheartedly embrace this journey of adoptive parenthood with joy, dedication, and an openness to learn from everyone in our future child’s community, including you!

Born in Ohio, raised in Houston, TX, and a former resident of Austin, Berkeley, Portland, and New York City, Joseph is a son of immigrants, brother to an older sister, and a dedicated husband and friend. He believes strongly in leaving a positive impact, both on those he loves as well as the environment as a whole. He loves science and engineering, nerding out the natural world and fixing anything that breaks in the house. As a former athlete, Joseph spends much of his time in motion, playing multiple sports, hiking with the dog, cooking up a delicious feast, or busting a move on the dance floor. Joseph spends the rest of his time laughing and goofing off with Julia.

Julia was raised just outside Washington DC where she still has a close knit group of childhood friends and family. Julia has been a special education teacher in New York and DC, and believes in inclusion of all learning styles, social justice, and bringing joy to the classroom. Julia defines herself as empathetic, inquisitive, creative, and lighthearted. She loves reading both fiction and non-fiction, and reading is her favorite subject to teach. She spends her time running or playing soccer, supporting women’s sports, gardening, taking her dog for long walks in nature, and DIY or art projects. She is a committed friend and family member, and loves hosting with Joseph.

OUR PETS

MEET OUR DOG

Chili is an adorable rescue dog that has been our steady companion over the last few years. At 5-years old, he’s happy relaxing on the couch or going on walks in nearby park trails, and he’s friendly to pretty much everyone. Living up to his nickname, “The Chillsters” he is patient with our friends’ young children and will come to you in a heartbeat if you’re in need of a cuddle with a 35-pound warm furball. We couldn’t ask for a more loving dog in our family!

OUR HOME & COMMUNITY

We reside in a vibrant and tight-knit neighborhood on a quiet street in Washington, DC, home to a diverse mix of new families and long-time residents. Parks, playgrounds, schools, restaurants, stores, and event spaces are all within easy walking or biking distance, including the wealth of the nation’s best (and free) museums. There’s always something to do for the family here, whether it be community porch music festivals, street fairs, or farmers markets. Our three-story row home was just renovated, and we love hosting our friends, as well as Julia’s parents and Joseph’s sister that live nearby. Our friendly neighbors include adoptive families and we regularly socialize on our porches.

THANK YOU

FOR CONSIDERING US

No matter how you are coming to this decision, adoption is a difficult emotional decision, and so, we thank you for making the time to learn more about us. Whatever your decision may be, we hope and wish for the best for you, your family, and your loved ones. But if we are lucky enough that the best path includes adoption with us, we promise to respect your decision with all of our effort, commitment, and love, but above all, a willingness to truly listen. As a interracial couple, we understand that bringing cultures together is complex but also beautiful. Listening is the foundation of making it work, and we believe our differences also make us a more kind, understanding, and vibrant family. We hope to build a family with as much involvement as feels right for you. With that in mind, Joseph’s parents and close friends still live in Houston, so Texas will always be a frequent travel destination. While we both lead with our values of meaningful civic engagement and leading a life of service we also value laughter and not taking ourselves too seriously. Joseph is excited to share all of his curiosity of the world and his loves of science, sports, outdoors, and cooking. He cannot wait to nurture his child’s interests and hobbies, whatever they may be. Julia hopes to impart her love of learning while providing all her love and support as an experienced educator. She’s looking forward to laughing every day with her child, fostering their creativity and being their greatest champion. Finally, we both hope to share with our child our love of travel to help instill a patient compassion for humanity in all its shapes and sizes. We will welcome your child with all the love, guidance, and resources for a bright future as a responsible and happy citizen of the world. Thank you again, and we hope to meet you soon. Sincerely, Joseph and Julia
