In 2003, I officially took over my parents’ trucking company which I currently run with a lot of pride. I am a relaxed, reliable and loyal person. I have a lot of friends who I have known since my youth.
Mariëlle often tells me that my advice and support provide a sense of calmness and tranquility. I feel very much responsible for the people I love and I try my best to put people at ease. My family comes first and foremost. Taking time off is hardly ever a problem because I am my own boss and I have
reliable people working for me that can take over my duties may that ever be necessary. I think this is very useful when being a good and caring father. Both Mariëlle and I are very honored to be the
guardians of our nephews and niece. Besides my sister, I also have 1 brother who lives nearby.
I also like to spend time with family and friends. I enjoy playing with my nephews, nieces and children
of close friends. Children are always welcome and I try to take extra care to make sure that the children
My hobbies are biking and hiking together with Esmée and Mariëlle. A few times a year I visit truck events in the Netherlands, because trucks are my passion. Together with Mariëlle and Esmée I’m member of the local Carnival association and folkloristic civic guard. Mariëlle and I are very
proud to be the King and Queen of this guard.
After completing high school, I went to college to become a nurse. I work as a specialist on the dialysis unit in a nearby hospital. Taking care of people is my passion in life. I have an identical twin sister who has been blessed son and a daughter. I also have a brother who lives nearby. Mark often says that I am an open and friendly person who is always there to lend a helping hand.
In addition, I enjoy being at home; simply being together as a family and being a mom. I love going on family outings, such as taking a trip or going mountain biking. I work-out twice a week and when I’m at
home relaxing, I take pleasure in reading, making my own jewelry, cards and sculptures, and making flower bouquets.
I’m Esmée, I was born on January 31, 2012 in California and adopted by my lovely mum and dad. I love playing with my friends, nephews and nieces. I love to be with other people and have them around. Dancing to music, especially when somebody joins in, is my passion. I like to be outside to do gardening and I enjoy playing in my own playground which daddy made for me.
When we go walking, which we do a lot, we often visit some animals nearby like billy goats, chickens, horses etc. I love to feed and cuddle them. I’m looking forward to being the big sister for my new brother or sister. I can’t wait to hug and play with my new brother or sister!
Our family is very important for us and we love spending time with them. Favorite things we like to do with them are walking, going out for dinner and making daytrips. Both our families are very excited and supportive about our adoption plans.
Where we live…the Netherlands
The Netherlands is a small country in the northwest of Europe. People from different cultures live together in a multicultural society. Tolerance, equality and diversity are key words when describing Dutch society. It does not matter what the color of our skin is, what religion you have, or what your origins are: there are equal rights, obligations and opportunities for all. Diversity has inspired a culture of tolerance and respect for every single individual person. An important feature of the Dutch educational system is that quality educational programs—up to and including university—are open to anybody, no matter what their financial means are. So The Netherlands is a wonderful, family friendly, safe place to raise a family.
We live in the south of the country where there are many theaters, shops, clubs, sports clubs, an ice rink, a swimming pool and a soccer stadium. Another advantage of living in this part of the country is that we can easily escape to the countryside; there are plenty of woodland areas as well as a number of lakes. We also live very close to Germany and Belgium. Belgium is only a two-minute drive away and Germany about a 30 minute drive. We live in a very “international” area, because we are close to these borders and all the people, including us, speak German as well as French (2nd national language in Belgium), English and Dutch. We often go shopping in both countries. Travelling around the world is easy for us; this is something we look forward to sharing with your child as they grow. We are eager to show our children as many different places as we possibly can in the world.
A two minute drive by car takes us to the center of our town. Pastures with cows and sheep are less than five minutes away. We really have the best of both worlds here. The community where we live has lots of young families and several playgrounds in the area. There is childcare near our house, and the elementary school is a two minute walk from home. We think this is a perfect place to raise a family.
We live in a large home with a large fenced in yard. Because our home is located next to
the family business, Mark is also able to come home and spend time with us during the day. The staff is also considered part of our family, and sometimes they pop in for a cup of coffee or just to chat. The first floor has four large bedrooms. One bedroom is Esmée’s room. Another bedroom is furnished and prepared as a nursery, just waiting for that lucky little one. The third bedroom next to ours is
always ready for a sleepover, if one of the cousins or nieces wishes to stay at our place. The yard has small playground which Mark built for Esmée, friends and family to enjoy. In the summer we have a large inflatable pool where we can cool down on a hot summer’s day.
Our Thoughts on Parenting and Our Promises
From the moment we met, we almost immediately felt we wanted to have children and start a family together because the children of our brothers, sisters and friends were always very important to us. As we do with Esmée, we want to give your child a warm and safe home with all the opportunities to learn and grow up. We want to support your child with whatever it needs. In our opinion, each person and child is unique and has their own individual personality; which is an important starting point for us in raising children. We will respect your child with all his or her aspects as they are. There will be rules set so that your child knows what is expected from him/her. If you would feel comfortable with this, we would be more than willing to send you updates and pictures so you will always be a part of our lives
and that of your child.
Next to a warm house and family we offer excellent healthcare and education adapted to the needs of our children. We are Catholic but of course open to your child exploring faith. We believe in freedom of religion and will encourage your child to make his or her own decisions about this.
Thank you for taking the time to get acquainted with us and our family. We hope that reading this letter will have given you an idea of who we are as a family, and what we have to offer as parents.
We are a family that feels a significant amount of respect, love and concern for each other and for our family, relatives and friends. There is plenty of room and love in our family for your child. We will always talk with sincerity and respect about the adoption and yourself. We wish you all the best and hope you’ll find the strength for the difficult times ahead.
