James and Melissa

We are Melissa and James. Dear Birthparents: Hello and welcome! Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about our family. We are Melissa and James from New York. If you are reading this and feel drawn to our profile, we feel God is bringing us together. We struggled with what to write to you as we know this is a difficult yet courageous decision you are making. We look forward to meeting and speaking to you. God Bless you on your journey as well and I hope you become a part of our family story. You can reach us toll free by calling 1-800-626-4324.

We unfortunately experienced a miscarriage one year after we were married. It was a grave loss for us. We continued to struggle with infertility for almost 4 years. After many infertility treatments our prayers were answered with our daughter Lilyanna. After a very complicated pregnancy the safe arrival of Lilyanna made all of our struggles worth it.

In our hearts we knew that our family was not yet complete and we began trying to have a second child. We tried fertility treatments again, but this time with no success. We knew that if God put such a strong desire in us to expand our family we could not give up our dream. Together we decided that adoption was the path meant to expand our family. Lilyanna confirmed that decision when she randomly said, “I have been praying for a baby sister or brother and I think we should adopt.” After hearing Lilyanna say that we knew we adoption was truly meant for us.

We look forward to meeting and speaking to you. God Bless you on your journey as well and I hope you become a part of our family story.

How We Met: James and I met in November 2003 at a local restaurant. We were both hesitant to go out that night, but reluctantly followed our friends out. It was clearly meant to be because after we saw each other across the room, the rest was history.

We were married in November 2006 and recently celebrated 10 years of marriage. We were blessed with our daughter, Lilyanna, in 2010. It was the most beautiful sunny day, which is befitting for Lilyanna. She is such a happy, positive and funny little girl who loves life.

Introducing James: James is such an amazing father, friend and husband. He is very loyal, thoughtful, humble, respectful, giving, caring, smart and strong (just to name a few of his many qualities I admire). He loves trying new things and loves living fully and sharing new experiences with us.

He has many hobbies such as boating, traveling, fishing, race car driving and building model cars. It is also important to James to give back to the community. He is such an awesome and involved dad.

We balance each other out extremely well personally, professionally and most importantly, as parents. We compliment each other well and work as a team in all aspects of our lives, which makes for a great life together. He is an amazing communicator and has helped me to become a great one as well. He listens intently and gives the best advice. I think he has a sixth sense where he can read people really, really well.

Do What You Love, Love What You Do: He is an entrepreneur and runs a successful company that has over 90 employees. The culture of his office is unprecedented. It is such a positive and motivating environment that has fostered the love for giving back to the community and family company wide. I am super proud of him in every way possible and am so blessed to have James by my side as my husband.

Introducing Melissa: I’ve been the luckiest man alive for the past 10 years- that’s how long I’ve been married to my beautiful wife Melissa. Through the years Melissa has not only been my wife, but my best friend, my biggest supporter, my rock… my world. She is my soul mate.

Soon after we were married we began trying to have a family. I remember when Melissa shared she was pregnant- I was on top of the world! Sadly it wasn’t long before she miscarried, and I felt like a boulder dropped on my heart. I’ve never known such sadness. We knew we needed to become parents, so we kept trying through several years and multiple specialists. After an extremely difficult pregnancy, our daughter Lilyanna was born. I was finally a father and Melissa was a mother! Life is so good we are blessed to have each other.

Do What You Love, Love What You Do: We cherished our roles as parents so much we decided Melissa would be a stay-at-home mom and it was the best decision we ever made. Melissa is an incredibly nurturing, loving and capable mother. She puts her heart and soul into raising our daughter and taking care of every detail of our home and lives. Not only is Melissa an incredible mother but she wears many hats such as Religion Teacher, Wish Grantor for Make a Wish and a Children’s Author. My greatest desire is to become a father again, through adoption, and watch our little family grow again.

Home Sweet Home: We have been building our dream home since March 2016 and are expected to move in by February 2017. Our home is in a great town with a small town feel. We chose to build here because it is a family-friendly neighborhood and there are many children. More importantly, we chose this area so we can be close to family and friends. There are always so many fun things going on around town. We have the best of both worlds, being in the center of the best beaches and the most beautiful farms.

While our home is being constructed we are living in our investment property. It is also in a great area just a short walk to the water and a wonderful park for the kids and the best restaurants nearby.

Meet Our Furry Friends Alfie and Scout: Alfie and Scout are both yorkies. These are the cutest most cuddly dogs and we certainly treat them like family. Alfie is 11 years old and grew up with Lilyanna. Scout is 7 Months old and we look forward to them both growing up with our next child as well.

Meet Future Big Sister, Lilyanna: Lilyanna is 6 years old and is in kindergarten. She loves to read books, play with figurines and doll houses. When we told Lilyanna that we were adopting she had the best reaction ever. She is beyond excited to be a big sister.

Lilyanna has such a big, giving heart. One example of that is that she chooses a charity to donate to instead of collecting birthday presents each year. She is thoughtful, sweet and is always thinking of others. She is also very funny and entertaining. Lilyanna loves doing ballet, theatre, swimming, horseback riding, piano and gymnastics.

Meet Big Cousin, Kayla: Our niece Kayla, my God Daughter, has been living with us for over a year now while attending college. She is amazing in every way. Kayla is 24 and going to college as a marketing communications major. She has the biggest heart. She loves life and trying new things. She is a Star Wars geek and a big lover of cats. Kayla is very smart and outgoing. She is super witty, fun and artistic. We feel so blessed that she has been living with us.

The People We Love: We have an incredible family on both sides filled with parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. We are blessed with an amazing loving, fun, openhearted extended family. A lot of our family resides in Florida and across the state but we make it a point to stay connected via social media, text, facetime as well as attending each other’s milestones and meeting up for vacations and holidays throughout the year.

We are so blessed with the best friends anyone could ever ask for. They are really like family. Most of our friends are from our childhoods and our kids are growing up together like cousins. We are so fortunate we share in the same family values and family fun!!

Our Faith: Our faith is a huge part of our lives, it’s the glue that holds us together and is the heart of our family as well as our core values.

Our church has become a part of our family having made strong connections and bonds at our parish. There are times we go every week for several months in a row and then there are times we go here and there. Not a day goes by where we don’t wake up and thank God for all of our blessings, say grace together before meals and talk about all the wonderful gifts God has given us. Lilyanna started her first formal religion class with me this year and she loves it. I try and make it fun with science projects, arts and crafts and snacks that tie into the bible lesson.

Our family and friends are so, so excited that we are adopting and can’t wait to love our future baby. We have members of our family that were adopted or have adopted.

Thank You: Thank you for taking the time to learn about our family. We hope that we’ve painted an accurate picture of what life is like in our home on a day to day basis. It would make our hearts so full to be blessed by the miracle of adoption. We are happy to share pictures and letters with you throughout the years. There are no words expressive enough to convey how grateful we are to you.
