Why We Chose Adoption
After four years of dating and planning our future together we got married and were eager to start a family. After two years of struggling with infertility, we realized that adoption was the best path for us to fulfill our dream. Costanza’s parents fostered a child who has since remained a close member of the family. Costanza’s cousin also adopted a toddler who is now 16. With these experiences in mind, it was easy for us to envision building our family and sharing our love with your child.
Costanza grew up in Italy, in a small village in the Tuscan countryside near Florence. She has a huge, supportive Italian family that has lived in the same region for the last 800 years! We travel to Italy frequently, and your child will experience holiday traditions with 50 or more relatives and friends gathered around the dinner table. Your child will also have the opportunity to experience magnificent cities like Florence, Rome, and Venice.
Even though Costanza resides in the U.S., she is still very connected to her family in Italy and enjoys cooking traditional recipes that she learned from her mother and grandmother. She studied ballet for more than 15 years, starting when she was 4 years old, and performed many times on stage. Now, in her free time she loves to dance Argentine tango and teaches free introductory tango classes at a local community center.
Costanza has a Master’s degree and a career in emergency management and response planning. As a consultant she has trained police, firefighters, and emergency responders in New York City, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, San Francisco, and other major cities. She is the go-to person who is always prepared and ready to take charge in a crisis.
What Bright says about Costanza: Costanza has a tender heart and a deep love for all living things—especially furry creatures. As a child her parents taught her to rescue animals, and now she feeds a number of stray cats that promptly show up at the “Cat Restaurant”—our backyard—around dinner time.
She also has an unrelenting passion for old books. She inherited that passion from her parents who own hundreds of books and started reading to her when she was an infant. Her collection of books is steadily filling our home and she is eager to share her love of reading and storytelling with your child. Last but not least, she loves to cook and can make wonderful homemade pasta!
I grew up in Pennsylvania with parents that immersed me in a wide variety of enriching activities; including horseback riding, skiing, music lessons, and summer science camps. I started learning to play the violin when I was four years old, and my fondest childhood memories are of playing violin with the school orchestra. I am excited about the chance to share music and other activities with your child so that your child can discover their own interests and talents.
In my free time I study martial arts and co-teaches tango classes with Costanza. I also enjoy volunteering in the community on a range of projects, from building playgrounds to helping non-profit organizations with accounting and fundraising. I am a life-long learner and am working on improving both his Italian and computer programming skills.
I have two Master’s degrees and work in market research at the headquarters for a large multinational hotel chain. My company has a very family-friendly culture and allows parents to work from home on days when they need to take care of family.
What Costanza says about Bright: Bright is my rock. He is the most patient, loyal, and kind person I have ever met. He has an amazing sense of humor and is incredibly smart. I love the fact that he is great at math, physics, and science—while I am not! I knew he was the “right one” when he showed up for one of our first dates with some presents— roses for me and little toys for my cats. He made sure I knew he was ready, and willing, to take care of them as much as me.
As a couple
We met in 2010 during a dance class and have been together ever since. Costanza soon discovered that Bright had studied tango in Argentina, where he lived for a year, and that he was teaching tango classes in his spare time. Now, almost 6 years later, we teach and perform together regularly.
We truly love traveling and learning about the world. Our birthdays are a week apart in April and each year around that time we visit a new country. This is the gift that we give to each other, and we hope to share the same experience with your child when he or she is ready. We also spend a lot of time reading, cooking together, and taking care of each other.
Our Home and Community in the USA
We have a home in a vibrant multicultural neighborhood in our nation’s capital. This community offers many opportunities for fun, excitement, and learning. Our neighborhood is GREAT for children–we are lucky to have a playground and a soccer field directly across the street from our home. Nearby we have an outstanding variety of schools and after-school programs, as well as numerous museums, parks, and the National Zoo.
Our Home and Community in Italy
We are in the process of building a second house in Tuscany, near Costanza’s family. This house has terraced land that slopes down towards the Arno River and is planted with over 100 olive trees. We are not planning to move to Italy, but our second home will be a place to stay when visiting Costanza’s aunts, uncles, and cousins that live nearby. Having a place in Italy will also give your child the opportunity to enjoy life in two continents and practice speaking Italian.
Costanza adopted our three cats in 2006. They had been rescued by a local organization and were fostered by volunteers. The day Costanza met them she was planning to adopt just Max and Leo. However she noticed a lovely gray cat (Tati) that seemed to be supervising the scene. The volunteer taking care of them explained that Tati was the mother of the two kittens and Tati would be adopted as soon as they found somebody that had space for her. After hearing the story, Costanza asked the volunteer to find an additional cat carrier. She had gone to pick up two cats and left with three! The cats are gentle, domesticated, and have lots of experience playing with children of friends and neighbors.
Our dream is to raise a child that can understand and embrace different peoples and cultures. We want to share with your child the wonders of the worlds and give this baby the support of an extended family that crosses two continents. We want to teach your child the values of education, dignity, self-respect, and respect for others. We also want to see your child learn to sing, dance, and communicate in multiple languages. But, most of all, our desire is to raise this wonderful, amazing human being to reach his or her full potential.
