Hi there! We are Lisa and Alan, an Australian couple who now live in the District of Columbia. We believe that with love as a foundation stone, there are no limits on the ways in which families grow. Several of our best friends are adopted, and we are absolutely committed to building a family through adoption. Like many others, we tried natural conception and fertility treatment without success. Nevertheless, our desire to raise children has continued to grow – there is nothing we would cherish more! We’d consider it the greatest honor to raise your child to become the strong, confident and capable person you want them to be. Helping a child to live a happy and successful life is one of the greatest things we could do. You can reach us toll free by calling 1-800-626-4324.
Our home is filled with laughter, learning, music and fun. We would love the chance to share it – and we have lots of love to give!
We were both born and raised in Perth, the capital of the state of Western Australia (think Texas plains with California beaches!).
We first met on the other side of Australia, though – while working in Australia’s capital Canberra. We connected quickly and became great friends before we became a couple. We were both hard-working people who wanted to make a difference in the world. Through our careers, we have traveled to many different parts of the world, to help people and countries impacted by war, and poverty. We have seen first hand through our travels how many different people live, and appreciate diversity. We feel privileged to have traveled to so many different countries, and we want to share these life experiences with children.
We are married and have been together now for fourteen wonderful years. We have a beautiful relationship based on true love, friendship, and shared values. Our relationship is stable and secure – it is as solid as a ‘rock’.
“Alan is my best friend – he inspires me and makes me laugh a lot too! He’s calm, always ready with a smile, and is incredibly hard working and I love him with all my heart.” – Lisa
I have two younger brothers – My brother and his wife have a beautiful daughter – our niece! My father established and still runs a small business making, repairing and renting commercial transport equipment for the mining industry – he has more drive than anybody I know, and I think a bit of this rubbed off onto me. My mother is a retired office manager – it’s from her that I received my sense of curiosity! We also have relatives in Arkansas and Massachusetts.
I love many things – sports, music, travel, and spending time with friends and family. I’m also a keen reader – science fiction, politics, science – anything but crime fiction which is Lisa’s favorite! Whenever I get back to Perth my friends from teenage years still put on a poker game to welcome me home. It’s great – even if I usually lose! I really love learning new things – something I got from my mother I’m sure!
As far as work is concerned, I have a couple of Masters Degrees ± in economics and business administration – and am a Lead Economist. Funnily enough, economics was my lowest mark at high school! I’m glad I trusted my gut and choose to study it, though, as it’s given me an entrée into a fantastic international career.
“After fourteen years, Lisa still takes my breath away. There is more love in her than I’ve ever seen in anybody else. No matter what happens to her in life she picks herself up – and everyone else – and moves forward. She stands up for what’s right. She also has a great sense of humor – a laugh is never far away! I love her to bits!” – Alan
I am the younger of two children – my brother and his wife have two amazing daughters, our nieces. I am very much the doting aunt and love being closely connected to them.
I grew up in a fantastic family with two very adoring, and supportive parents – My father worked as a purchasing officer for mining companies for many years. My mother was originally a nurse, and then went on to become a social worker who specialized in rehabilitation medicine. My mother passed away mid 2016 – she was a giant presence and guide to me, and her loss was devastating. My greatest aspiration is to be as good a mother as her one day.
I have a Masters Degree in Public Policy, and Degrees in Law and Humanities. In my early career I worked hard to establish myself as a specialist in the humanitarian/human rights field. I used to have to travel overseas for work, but I no longer need to travel and can work flexible hours.
I love spending time at home with Alan chatting, cooking and laughing. I’m a great cook if I do say so myself! I love nothing better than bringing people together to eat good food, talk about current affairs, and to laugh about silly stuff.
In our Spare Time
Lisa loves to draw and paint, and to put on a tool belt to renovate houses.
Alan really enjoys playing guitar and does some amateur computer coding for fun.
Both of us love reading, listening to music and spending time with family and friends. Alan also loves sports! He will play or watch pretty much any sport going. Coming from Australia Alan was brought up on Australian football and cricket, but living in the US he has come to love American football – brilliant! Lisa, however, does not like sports. While she is super fit and loves her swimming and walking, she would rather do pretty much anything else than watch or play sports!
We are lucky enough to have homes in Australia and in the US. Our home in Australia has great ocean views, and is close to a beach where you can swim all year round. There are parks and bush land close by our home for adventuring. The vibrant local community includes a real mix of people, including many artists and musicians.
Our home in the District of Columbia is a fabulous light filled city apartment in what was once a famous old hotel. We have a pool and gym in the building, and lots of great neighbors. The local community is very multicultural, and many foreign embassies are close by. Our neighborhood has lots of beautiful parks with play equipment for children, and we’re surrounded by a number of great schools. Only a short drive away are some of the best museums (e.g., The Smithsonian), and art galleries in the country.
Our Global Village
We’re part of a global village of family and friends from all parts of the world. We have immediate family in Australia, as well as relatives in America. We see our Australian family and friends often – either when they come to visit us in Washington, or we go to visit them in Perth. We usually bring both sides of our family together to celebrate holidays. We’re lucky enough to have friends from all over the world!
Our Thoughts on Parenting
If you choose us as adopted parents for your child we guarantee that we’ll work as a tight team to raise him or her in the best way possible: we have the career flexibility and financial means to meet their needs.
We strongly believe in the power of love, education, and experiences to provide a solid foundation for individual growth, and to build the capacity to make the most of life’s opportunities. We will support access to top quality education at all levels, and will travel with your child to show them many different countries and cultures that make up our amazing world. We will always be there for your child to give all the love and support we can.
